If you're looking for a colour stone engagement ring that's strong enough to wear every day, then sapphires should be your number one choice. After diamonds, sapphires are the strongest gemstones and the most resilient of all the colour gems.

That's why we see so many sapphire engagement rings, but did you know that sapphires come in virtually every colour under the sun? But why not consider different shades of blue? Or look for a more contemporary design? Or even a lavender sapphire, or mauve tinged ones?

Here's a surprising fact - rubies, that other engagement ring favourite, are in fact red sapphires. Apart from the trace elements that give them their colour, the scientific make up of both colours is exactly the same. But not all rubies are the same. Just look at the range of colours from the traditional deep red, to these cherry bright colours.

A sunshine bright yellow sapphire is a more affordable alternative to the increasingly popular yellow diamond. Or how about these rich purples and magentas? Or candy pinks that are just so pretty? And we've even found a green sapphire.

While diamonds may be forever, if it's colour, durability and wow factor that you're after put a sapphire on your wish list in whatever colour your heart desires.
