Chopard hints at what to expect from its sensational new collection of Red Carpet jewels, which will be making their debut at the Cannes Film Festival 2013.

Chopard-Red-Carpet-Collection-2013

With the Cannes Film Festival just around the corner, we offer you a sneak peek at some of the Chopard jewels that you may spot celebrities wearing on the red carpet this year. Chopard's annual Red Carpet collection of high jewels is so-called because the pieces are premiered for the first time at the Cannes Film Festival. For 2013 - the 15th anniversary of Chopard's sparkling presence at the festival - the theme is romance.

Artistic Director of Chopard and Co-President Caroline Scheufele pays a tribute to great love stories, in particular those seen on the silver screen. "Love is universal," says Caroline, "It illuminates women's beauty, like a beautiful piece of jewellery. I very much wanted to pay tribute to the finest sentiments. The Red Carpet collection is thus adorned in shimmering colours, red accents… like the fire of passion and heart-shaped precious stones, one of my favourite cuts."

Hence the dreamy lilac-hued kunzite and the heart-shaped Paraiba stone set into impressive rings. I tried on the poppy ring at Baselworld and its petals, shimmering with rubies, tremble with each movement of the hand bringing to life the diamonds, 700 rubies, 640 tsavorites and 168 emeralds that embellish this one-of-a-kind bloom.

The star of the show is a diamond choker-style necklace in white gold, set with a 5ct pear-cut diamond and 284 rose-cut diamonds totalling almost 183ct, which is as romantic as a fairytale. Like the Marilyn Monroe necklace worn last year by Eva Herzgova, high choker-style necklaces seem to be in vogue. I will be looking out for these jewels on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival and will keep you posted on all that I see.
