Cartier opened its first flagship boutique at 13 Rue de la Paix in 1899 and quickly became an important stop for royalty, celebrities and the world’s most discriminating collectors. The black marble and gold facade on the historic Parisian street provides a perfect frame for the handcrafted watches and jewellery on show in the window displays, from one-of-a-kind high jewellery pieces and impressive diamond engagement rings, to timepieces with some of the best-known names in watchmaking: the Tank, Santos, Pasha and, more recently, the Ballon Bleu.

Step inside to discover an impressive presentation of Cartier’s jewellery and watch collections, all made in-house and elegantly displayed underneath the original glass dome ceiling. On the mezzanine level is the original office of Jeanne Toussaint, the famed former artistic director of high jewellery at Cartier - a special feature unique to this location that is not to be missed. The space is decorated with portraits, gouaches and photos of famous collectors, such as the Duchess of Windsor and Daisy Fellowes.

Why visit? Why visit?

The flagship Cartier boutique houses a dazzling selection of high jewellery, watches for him and her, and a wide range of classic and contemporary jewels from collections including the Panthère, Juste un Clou, LOVE and Paris Nouvelle Vague, all housed under an original glass dome ceiling that lends this historic boutique just the right amount of gravitas.

Starting with the first Santos wristwatch in 1904, watchmaking continues to be at the heart of Cartier. Collections for men and women, from elegant time-only pieces such as the Ballon Blue to grand complications like the Rotonde de Cartier, are all made by master watchmakers in La-Chaux-de-Fonds and Geneva, Switzerland. In these workshops, advanced technology and traditional methods combine to uphold the watchmaking philosophy of the Maison.
