Black diamonds

Black diamonds are the antithesis of their sparkling white diamond siblings. Sometimes referred to as carbonados diamonds because of the properties they share with charcoal, many black diamonds have undergone heat treatment to achieve their dark hue. However, natural Fancy black diamonds do exist and are some of the rarest gems in the world, found only in the riverbeds and lakes of Brazil and the Central African Republic. Their origins remain unknown to scientists. Some believe they came from the sky in the form of meteorites, whilst others are of the belief that high-pressure conditions inside the Earth caused volcanic eruptions, pushing them to the surface.
