An electronic watch movement that does not need to be wound, powered by a battery. The quartz crystal vibrates with a steady frequency of 32,768 vibrations per second when it receives electricity from a battery. A quartz movement is more accurate that a mechanical movement but will need to have its battery changed on a regular basis.
