The big difference between Madrid and many other capitals is its size. Thanks to its compact city centre, it is an ideal city to explore on foot. Madrid is a great city for buying jewellery and watches that, for the most part, are conveniently clustered in the elegant neighbourbood of Salamanca. Spain’s incredibly rich history has given rise to some of the most diverse jewellery-making techniques in the world. Jewellers such as Carrera y Carrera evoke Spain’s myriad cultural traditions, while independent contemporary designers such as Joaquín Berao prove that the art of jewellery making is very much alive and kicking.
