Fabergé is sending New Yorkers on their biggest ever egg hunt this Easter to raise millions for charity.

The name Fabergé is synonymous with eggs of the most luxurious kind, so it should come as no surprise that the iconic jeweller is behind one of the most spectacular Easter egg hunts ever seen.

Taking place in New York during the month of April, The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt will see almost 300 giant egg sculptures dotted throughout the city's five boroughs. The jeweller has commissioned world famous artists, designers and architects to create the two-foot tall eggs as part of a citywide art display. Among those participating in the project are Tracey Emin, Mark Quinn, Zaha Hadid, Ronnie Wood, Peter Beard, Diane von Furstenberg, Marchesa, Oliver Theykens and Bruce Weber.  British architect Zaha Hadid has designed a 'Liquid Skyline' egg, which will be on display at the Fabergé store in Madison Avenue until April 17.

NYC residents and visitors who take part in the hunt will be able to download a Smartphone App, which guides users to the location of all the eggs and alerts them when they are near the eggs. They will also be competing to win one of three unique Faberge egg pendants in gold and diamonds, together worth more than $125,000. The pendants are set with either Zambian emeralds, Mozambican rubies or Zambian amethysts donated by Gemfields.

At the end of the egg hunt the sculptures will be sold at an auction held by Sotheby's, with all the proceeds going to two charities: Elephant Family, which works to protect some of the world's most endangered animals and Studio in a School which provides arts education for children in NYC.

Fabergé is hoping that the New York initiative will repeat the success of The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt in London in 2012, which set two Guinness World Records and raised more than $15 million for charity.

Katharina Flohr, Fabergé's Creative and Managing Director, said: "We are delighted to bring The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt to New York. Philanthropy is at the heart of the ethos of Fabergé, and so is our aim to nurture creative talent and support innovative projects."
