A new collection of Liens watches from the House of Chaumet are the epitome of chic

Chaumet's new collection of Liens watches draws inspiration from the iconic 'link' motif that has been an emblem of the French maison for more than 200 years.

Chaumet has long known how to capture the essence of Parisian elegance in a jewel or, as is the case with the new Liens de Chaumet timepieces, in the contours of a watch.

The House of Chaumet is a brand whose heritage is always on show. Liens de Chaumet is one of the maison's most recognisable motifs, an intertwined 'X' that has, since Chaumet was founded in 1780, appeared on tiaras, brooches, necklaces and even, this year, an entire haute joaillerie collection. In the tradition of lovers' knots from the 17th century, this enduringly simple motif is imbued with sentiment, representing the ties of love, family and friendship.

The iconic Chaumet 'X' is not immediately obvious on first glance but cleverly incorporated into the cases of the six new Liens watches. Viewed in profile, the Lien cross meets at the crown and extends to create the links that hold the strap in place. With hands animated by a self-winding mechanical movement and oversized numerals at 6 and 12 o clock, there is an undeniable chic-ness to the new Liens de Chaumet watches that can be summed up by one tiny detail that I love: the tiny cabochon mother of pearl decorating the crown.

Presented in six variations, my favourite is the pink gold model, set with 64 brilliant cut diamonds around the face. Available with or without diamonds, Chaumet gives you the freedom to tailor your timepiece with the choice of either an alligator leather or stainless steel strap.
