|Louis Vuitton’s new high jewellery collection, Acte V, is all about the ultimate escape: that perfect holiday when you escape the world and arrive at a paradise island such as Capri in the Mediterranean.
Capri is the perfect place to showcase these jewels, as it has been the playground of choice to the wealthy since Roman times. The 50 new jewels reference the moment in the 1930s when travel became a pleasure and the first luxury tourism began.
Highlights for me include this three-row diamond necklace with a tsavorite garnet tassel. At first glance this necklace could seem quite classical, but the way that the diamonds are draped around the neck with the ease of a piece of silk is what I find so appealing.
We see the rhythmic symmetry of this aesthetic in the repeated patterns, like the undulated wake of a yacht combined with a soft fluid flow of pearls and unusual and rare gemstones as nature meets manmade perfection. It has the spirit of Art Deco in something so very modern.
With a carved onyx plaque, two diamond-set Vs and rows of graduated South Sea pearls, it slips over the neck so easily and it really does show us a new way to wear two very classical elements, pearls and diamonds, in a new way.
What I love about these jewels, apart from their obvious beauty, is the emotion they convey, so even when Capri may be a dot far away on the horizon, the feelings are still there, captured in these jewels.
