Today i’m going to show you my pick of the top three coloured gemstone earrings. When we talk about colour, it’s impossible not to think about Lydia Courteille. Now this Parisian jeweller describes herself as a poet who uses jewels to tell epic stories, and I think when you look at one of her jewels you do get that immediate, straight to the heart reaction because these jewels are so much part of Lydia’s life. Lydia is an exceptional woman who began her career as a pathologist, which is perhaps why she is fascinated with death and doesn’t fear to look it straight in the eye.
And these earrings are called Vendanges Tardives which in English means ‘Late harvest.’ Like many of Lydia’s jewels, there is a rich and complicated story. It is a homage to the surrealists, which Lydia loved throughout her life, and also these grapes represent the cycle of life, with the late harvest grapes almost at the point of death yet producing the sweetest wine. So, all of this comes together in some very beautiful earrings and we have tsavorites for the green leaves, diamonds and sapphires all set into black and gold.
I just had to include these earrings by Chopard because they were in fact first shown on the red carpet at the Cannes film festival this year and they are showstoppers. With the ever popular turquoise combined with rubellite we get this stunning colour combination.
My third and final choice of earrings are these from de Grisogono that use amethyst to candy-bright effect.
Colourful, audacious and provocative, those are qualities that I look for in design. So when you come to buy your next pair of earrings, be bold and dare to stand out from the crowd with something that really sings out with colour.
