To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic Nautilus in 2016, Patek Philippe launched Ref. 5976/1G, an automatic flyback chronograph in white gold. A limited edition of 1,300 watches, the diameter has been increased to 49.25mm and the bilateral ‘ears’ are more pronounced. From the white gold case and bracelet to the foldover clasp, the watch highlights Patek’s impeccable finishes with the satin-brushed bezel and alternating mirror-polished surfaces. Set against the vivid blue dial, the chronograph counter at 6 o’clock condenses all elapsed time readings into one disc organised in three concentric scales: the outermost scale features the 12 hours counter followed by the 1-30 minute counter and the 31-60 minute counter in the centre. Baguette and princess-cut diamonds have been used as hour markers, and the classic embossed bars on the dial display the anniversary citation 1976 – 40 – 2016. The in-house automatic movement (CH 28-520 C) features a 21-carat-gold rotor and the chronograph functions are controlled by a classic column-wheel mechanism, all visible through the transparent sapphire caseback. The watch is presented in an anniversary cork box, just like its predecessor of 1976.
