Independent Swiss watchmaker F.P. Journe has launched its first timepiece collection for women. François-Paul Journe's first foray into the world of feminine timepieces, he was determined to ensure that the quartz movement was as unique and innovative as its masculine counterparts. After eight years of research and development, the unique electromechanical movement of the Élégante timepiece allows the watch to preserve power when not in use, providing it with unparalleled power reserve, 10 years of uninterrupted in-use life and 18 years in standby. Staying true to the user-friendly concept of longevity, F.P. Journe also wished to create a watch that was not only beautiful but also comfortable and durable. Utilising rubber, not only for the watch strap but also incorporated into the case, has ensured that this watch will be able to keep pace with the life of the quartz movement. This striking Élégante model features a titanium and red rubber tortue case, which houses a classical dial with black Arabic numerals and minute counters. The hours and minutes are marked with elegant tapered blued hands, with a separate small seconds aperture at 6 o'clock. The dial is fully luminescent, providing complete visibility by day or night. Intriguingly, a semi-circular cut-out at 4 o'clock hints at the timepiece's unique complication: a motion sensor that sends the watch to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity. Visible through the case back is the 126 mechanical elements that make up the calibre 1210 movement. A tiny gold heart points to where the microprocessor is located - the mechanism that allows this watch to sleep and awake with ultimate precision.
