So how would you feel about being given your fiancé's late mother's engagement ring? Yes there is something slightly spooky about the thought. Not only is Kate stepping into Princess Diana's shoes, she is also wearing her ring. Part of me thinks that Prince William really did mean it as a sweet gesture out of love for his lovely mother, but it still sends a chill up my back when I see the next royal bride's hand draped over a Prince's arm with THAT ring on it. Unlike modern brides who scour the internet, have endless discussions over cappuccinos with their girIfriends and make engagement rings pillow talk for months on end, Kate is not allowed such indulgences. Her royal life has started. Is it a nice ring? Well, it is certainly iconic and I am sure it will spur an onslaught of me-too's much like Diana's ruff collars and pearl stud earrings. The sapphire is a good colour and a sizable 18 carats. It was designed by Diana who wanted her own ring, not a hand-me-down, an early sign of Diana's independent streak.
