Released earlier this year, Carla Amorim's two new high jewellery collections show off the Brazilian designer's vibrant use of colour combined with soft, sensuous forms.
Debuted at Baselworld, the Rio and Pantone collections embody what we've come to expect from the talented designer. Vibrant and full of life, rainbow rings, necklaces and earrings incorporate unusual gemstone combinations, including rich red rubies, ocean blue sapphires, lemon calcite and deep green nephrite jade.
Established in Brasilia in 1992, Carla's work often incorporates elements of architecture, nature and the culture of her native country, Brazil. Keeping to one of her favourite themes, the Pantone collection is all about colour, and here she manipulates the shape and colour of precious stones to represent fruit, stars and even weather. Round chunks of orange carnelian agate represent juicy fruit in her "Mango" earrings, while an oval chrysophrase looks similar to the shape and shade of the Asian nut in the "Pistachio" ring. Sleek drops of yellow calcite resemble sun rays in her "Sunlight" earrings, and diamond encrusted droplets embody the movement and shape of rain in her "Raindrop" earrings.
Another popular inspiration for Carla's work, the glamorous Rio collection pays homage to the vibrant capital city of Brazil. Using a variety of shapes, colours and gemstones, Carla has designed a collection as diverse as Rio itself and interprets some of its well-known landmarks into jewels. Oversized, bejewelled rings and pendants sparkle with emeralds, rubies and diamonds in the shapes of pretty flowers, while beautiful earrings hang delicately, free to move with the body.
Brazil's fun, flamboyant vibe is directly represented through Carla's extraordinary jewels. Statement, colourful pieces - they're the perfect accessory for a good time.
