Corrado Giuspino's one-off jewels are bold and highly original. A graduate of the Academy of Fashion and Costume Design in Rome, Giuspino's fashion background shines through in his designs, which weave the geometric forms and bold colours of the deco era and oriental influences into dramatic statement pieces incorporating Giuspino's favourite "ingredients": jade, pearls and diamonds.
The fashion pack love him and it's not difficult to see why. Prior to the launch of his first collection back in 2008, he worked in the fashion industry, and there is a strong sense of style running through each of his creations. Each piece is hand-crafted in Costa Smerelda in Sardinia, where Giuspino lives and works, but his jewels have earned him an international following and regularly grace the pages of Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire magazines.
His new collection for 2013 is, as always, inspired by the strong lines of the art deco movement. Black onyx, green jade and red topaz - those classic colours of the orient - feature prominently alongside pretty lilac chalcedony cabochons and dark Tahitian pearls.
Two pearl bracelets can be transformed into a second piece of jewellery - one a pendant, the other a brooch - by removing the central motifs, while the beautiful carved jade drops on a pair of earrings were sourced on one of Giuspino's regular trips to Asia, where he hunts out the pearls, jade, lacquer, onyx and colourful gemstones that are a recurring theme in each new collection.
