Lorenz Bäumer is a name in jewellery known to the discerning few. With but one showroom in Place Vendôme, Paris, which opened in the summer of 2013, Bäumer mainly sells through private appointments and trunk shows around the world. The brand has no big advertising campaigns or splashy celebrity events. Instead, it focusses on making original jewels for those who are looking for something different.

It was to Lorenz Bäumer that Princess Charlene of Monaco turned for a tiara to wear to her wedding party three years ago. The final design was in fact more of an 'aigrette' that sits like an Alice band on the head. Charlene chose Bäumer to create her head jewel as she liked the informality and playfulness of the 'Spray' design. The main motif can be detached and worn as a brooch.

And it is this same sense of uniqueness that Lorenz Bäumer's fans look for in his jewels. Recently, Bäumer was in London showing his latest collections. The first thing that stands out is the wide range of styles on show. "I don't do this 'themed collection' thing," explains Bäumer of the exotic panoply of jewels on display. Each one is quite different from the next, but what unites them all is a quirky individuality, interesting stone selections and great craftsmanship. "My jewels are for the woman who maybe already has the diamond ring and the big jewels and is looking for something no-one else has," explains Bäumer.
