Cannes Film Festival 2014: colour reigned among the red carpet jewels this weekend

Green and blue were the colours to be seen in this weekend, with stars including Cate Blanchett stepping out in colourful jewels on the Cannes red carpet.

The first weekend in Cannes saw a flurry of colour, including Julianne Moore debuting a huge pair of emerald earrings from Chopard's Red Carpet collection at the star-studded Hunger Games party.

The start of the festival may have been dominated by diamonds on the red carpet, but the weekend was anything but. Taking the theme of her latest film to heart, Cate Blanchett attended the premiere of How to Train Your Dragon 2 in a sequinned dress by Givenchy that, from a distance, resembled the skin of a reptile. Turning up the volume even further, she accessorised it with a Paraiba tourmaline ring and sapphire drop earrings by Chopard

We're unsure whether the Danish singer-actress Nanna Øland Fabricius, better known by her stage name, Oh Land, had turquoise hair by choice or she is part-way through filming, but rather than shying away from colourful jewels, she added to her edgy look with pretty purply-blue tanzanite earrings by Chaumet.

Lea Seydoux stuck to just one colour for the premiere of Saint Laurent: emerald green. She coordinated her plunging Prada gown with emerald earrings and an emerald cocktail ring by Chopard for one of the weekend's best looks.

And a special mention must go to Naomi Watts, who walked the How to Train Your Dragon 2 red carpet alongside Cate Blanchett in a Bulgari Serpenti necklace, worn back to front so the snake's tail trailed down her spine.
