A very British affair: Boodles jewellery and Sophie Dahl

"Dress-down" diamonds are at the heart of the latest Boodles jewellery collection, created in honour of the iconic Sophie Dahl.

This spring, Boodles is unveiling a collection of delicate feminine jewellery dedicated to British style icon Sophie Dahl.

The fashion model and best-selling author has been an ambassador and muse for Boodles since 2013 and her elegant, yet relaxed, style is the perfect match for the jewellery brand’s modern take on luxury with a British flavour.

The abstract hearts are so subtly realised in these Boodles Sophie earrings that she can wear these mother-of-pearl and diamond earrings everyday (£9,500).

Established in 1798 as Boodle and Dunthorne, Boodles is still a family firm run by brothers Nicholas and Michael Wainwright, with cousins Jody Wainwright and James Amos representing the sixth generation. British craftsmanship sits very much at the heart of the business, as it continues to evolve with new jewellery collections that push the boundaries of creativity, yet have an infinite sense of wearability.

Boodles director James Amos said: “We have loved working with Sophie over the past three years. She is an inspirational modern woman and a British treasure who has achieved so much. We are delighted to have Sophie as a Boodles ambassador and wanted to create a piece of jewellery to honour this relationship.”

The Boodles Sophie pendant necklace in platinum and white diamonds, with a suspended central diamond (£16,000).

The design of the new Sophie collection is based on an abstract heart-shaped design, which features a single, brilliant-cut diamond suspended within a circle. Initially, the collection will comprise two pendant styles - one in platinum with white diamonds, and another in rose gold with diamonds and pale pink mother-of-pearl - with matching Boodles bracelets and heart-shaped diamond rings set to launch later this summer.

The story of how Sophie Dahl was first discovered is now the stuff of fashion legend. It was the late Isabella Blow who found her crying in a Chelsea doorway after a row with her mother. After shooting to fame as a plus-sized model in the 1990s, she has followed in her grandfather Roald Dahl’s footsteps and embarked on a career as a writer of both novels and cookbooks. Now living in Buckinghamshire with her husband Jamie Cullen and two young children, Sophie’s most recent Boodles jewellery campaign shoot demonstrates how diamonds can add a touch of sparkle to your daily life.

The new Sophie pendants are a continuation of this idea of “dress-down” diamonds, which are as effortless to wear as your favourite T-shirt, yet have the power to make you feel special every day.
