SAG Awards 2020: diamonds rule on the red carpet

The Screen Actors Guild Awards reveal a $25 million diamond and trends to watch for on the red carpet in 2020.

Jennifer Lopez Harry Winston SAG Awards 2020

Harry Winston came out top with the highest profile celebrity line up dazzling in the American jeweller’s diamonds. Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner and Lili Reinhart were the big names to fly the Winston flag. Most notably, Jennifer Lopez wore $9 million dollars of Harry Winston diamonds with trademark cool elegance. Reese Witherspoon shunned a big necklace in favour of a diamanté dress strap and diamond earrings, bracelet and rings by Harry Winston while Jennifer Garner wore over 80 carats of Harry Winston diamonds including a 1959 vintage diamond bracelet. Lili Reinhart chose the hot trend of the season with the Harry Winston Cluster earrings that climb up the lobe.

Conveniently based in Los Angeles, Harry Kotlar has made a name for itself providing jewels for key red carpet moments. This year the showstopper from Kotlar was an 182-carat diamond necklace worn by Yvonne Strahovski  who acted in The Handmaid’s Tale. Initially described in the press release as worth  one-million dollars, a later email corrected the value to a staggering $25 million. Strahovski wisely kept the rest of her outfit plain and simple with a white off the shoulder gown and her hair swept up revealing matching diamond ear studs.

Chanel, that only does head to toe dressing, was represented by Margot Robbie and Margaret Qualley who wore relatively modest Dazzling and Coco Crush jewels respectively.

The SAG Ambassador and actress Logan Browning chose Pomellato jewels in sophisticated, subdued hues. Her Pomellato Tango earrings and Iconica ring are set with brown diamonds to complement the neutral tones of her Sabbia and Nudo Pink rings.

Actress Danai Gurira provided to most colourful jewellery moment with her Bulgari Diva’s Dream necklace bursting with bright gems including rubellites, peridot, amethysts, citrine, topaz and tourmalines with diamond highlights.

Several independent jewellers had their moment in the limelight. British actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge chose Fernando Jorge’s High Brilliant diamond earrings and rings. Born in Brazil but now based in London, Fernando Jorge is becoming a red carpet favourite with celebrities looking for an indie-chic jewellery option. Parisian jeweller Lydia Courteille, known for her way-out extravagance in jewellery design, was the choice of Nicole Kidman who has been known for her individual outfit choices.
