Pantone colour of the year: indulge in warm hued jewellery the colour of Marsala wine

The Pantone colour for 2015 is inspired by the fortified Italian wine from Marsala, and jewellers are toasting the trend with rich, red gemstones.

Like the fortified wine from which it takes its name, Marsala, the Pantone colour of the year for 2015, is rich, earthy and sophisticated.

And, as many designers have already discovered, the plush, wine-red colour lends itself extremely well to jewellery. From rubies and garnets to rhodonite and tourmalines, there is no shortage of gemstones that capture the Pantone colour of the year 2015.

The warmth of Marsala is really brought out when it is paired with yellow gold, as demonstrated by these impressive Anahita earrings. Featuring 62.10ct of rubies, as well as diamonds and silver moonstones, the size of the stones alone is enough to take the earrings into statement jewel territory.

Created by Mira Gulati to meet the growing demand in India for luxury jewellery with a contemporary edge, Mirari is known for its vibrantly coloured pieces. Her Butterfly Pavilion earrings match Pantone's colour of the year perfectly and are typical of her flamboyant design style.  The deep red butterfly wings contrast beautifully with the pastel-coloured flowers and glittering diamonds, making these earrings the ideal jewels to wear this spring.

The whole of Carla Amorim's Sao Paulo collection is an ode to Brazil's vibrant and eclectic city. These beaded triple hoop Carla Amorim earrings are studded with square-cut red garnets. Another Brazilian jewellery designer of note is Jack Vartanian, whose edgy designs have quickly amassed a hip, young following. Part of the Ned Desire collection, these glamorous Jack Vartanian earrings in white gold and black rhodium, with rhodonite and diamonds, are the perfect on-trend party wear.

Hemmerle's one-of-a-kind jewels never fail to astound with their exquisite attention to detail. The Munich-based jeweller's latest collection features an abundance of tone-on-tone colour combinations, including these Hemmerle earrings in rich browny-red tones. As always with Hemmerle, innovative mixes of materials - in this case tourmalines, garnets, copper and white gold - are brought together in an utterly harmonious manner.

One of my favourite Marsala-coloured pieces is this deceptively simple yet stunning Octium ring featuring a large pear-cut garnet on a yellow gold band. But these are just a handful of the Marsala-coloured jewels that have caught our eye: expect to see many more throughout 2015.

Help us make the future bright

Since founding The Jewellery Editor in 2010, we have grown our digital magazine to be the number one global source of information and inspiration for fine jewellery and luxury watches.
