Alexandra Mor is well-known for the bold, angular lines of her outsized gemstones and show-stopping jewelry. Five years after she launched her eponymous line and caught the attention of jewelry lovers around the world, she introduces the High Jewelry collection, which marries her signature motifs with curvy, more feminine lines and cabochon gemstones in pastel hues.
"In a way the collection represents my growth as a designer and as a woman," says the chic designer as she introduces the pieces in the equally chic surroundings of Manhattan's Viceroy Hotel. The duck egg blue of an enormous 42.00 carat Andean opal floats effortlessly on a cloud of Alexandra's signature knife-edge wire and diamond melee in one spectacular double ring, while a perfect cabochon orb of palest rose quartz is set slightly off-center and surrounded by diamonds in another. These jewels speak power in femininity.
Earrings are given the same softer treatment. The lines of a pair of dangling diamond earrings curve like a woman's waist and have inspired Alexandra to create what promises to be a spectacular bracelet in the same vein for 2015.
The designer has been hard at work all year and April 2015 will also mark the launch of her Vows by Alexandra Mor collection. With an array of beautiful diamonds, delicate snowflake and bow motifs, and the introduction of Baroque pearls, she has created pieces that are at once classic and quintessentially Mor.
With a global clientele, Alexandra says she wants to provide a collection that speaks to the bond between two people, no matter where they come from. "It means a lot to me to be part of their journey," she adds.
All this new jewelry naturally needs a home and Alexandra is excited about opening her first salon at Dorfman Jewelers in Boston this month. With a strong local following in the area, the salon will provide a showcase for her collections and a space where she can meet with bespoke clients.
The addition of new collections does nothing to dilute Alexandra's bold aesthetic, and she is more dedicated than ever to creating what she describes as "an heirloom in the making."
