Cut (for gemstones)

Cutting transforms a rough stone into a sparkling gemstone. This process, called lapidary, brings out the best lustre, colour and brilliance of a stone. Coloured gems are usually not cut with an ideal standard in mind because they may have inclusions or other blemishes. A good cut will make use of these traits to enhance the gem’s optimum colour and brilliance.
