Diamonds may have many types of blemishes or flaws on their surface. Some of these are natural and have little or no effect on the diamond’s value. Some common types of blemishes include scratches, which can usually be polished away, nicks and pits - where a chip or small hole can be found in the diamond’s facet. Polishing lines are small lines that show up during the cutting and polishing process.
