A visit to Solange Azagury-Partridge’s townhouse is a must for lovers of jewellery and those intrigued by contemporary design.
The stair carpet alone, with each step a different, eye-searing, psychedelic pattern, is but the start of a chromatic spectacle that makes other jewellers pale into polite conformity. Rainbow neon wall hangings glow against ruby red walls and medieval stained glass windows. The elaborate period plastering of each room is picked out in acid-bright hues, pulled together by Solange’s hypnotically patterned rugs in retina-cauterising mazes of colour.
The look is unique with a touch of cute kookiness, shot through with a rebel streak. And of course there is the jewellery, which is what you will be visiting for. The jewels are in display cases dotted over the three floors where you will find a wide selection, ranging from the iconic Lips ring, to one-off jewels. What they all have in common is huge originality, wit, beauty and coloured gemstones to die for. Almost everything you see, from the jewels to the furniture and rugs, is designed by Solange, making this a must for fans of contemporary design.
This is a full-on, fully immersive blast of the best of contemporary British jewellery design in a spectacularly original and bright interior, which will leave your head spinning and put a big smile on your face. Fashionistas shouldn’t miss this temple of cool that the famous Lips ring calls home.
Solange Azagury-Partridge has been quietly making watches since her days in Notting Hill. Produced in small quantities and featuring a large amount of precious stones, the Round Rainbow is immediately identifiable as a Solange creation, bursting with colour and life. The Snowy watch randomly scatters diamonds on a black dial while the WatchStar is just that: a watch in the shape of a vibrant star fizzing with light and diamonds. Watches do not get much more original than this.
All Solange Azagury-Partridge’s jewellery is made in workshops in London and throughout the UK, adding to their individuality and exclusivity. With a fine attention to detail, each jewel is limited in the number of pieces that can be made due to the time-consuming and labour-intensive production process, assuring you that any jewel signed by Solange is unique both in design and creation.
Frustrated when she couldn’t find a diamond engagement ring that she liked, Solange Azagury-Partridge began designing jewellery in 1987. Ideal for the design-conscious couple that are looking for originality and personality in an engagement ring, don’t expect classic diamond solitaires. The Shooting Star diamond ring or the pretty diamond Bluebell, along with a diamond Bones band, would be perfect for the woman who wants to express her personality in every choice that she makes, right down to the ring on her finger.
