Cannes red carpet jewellery: all the finesse from the first day of the festival

From Chopard and de GRISOGONO to Bulgari and Montblanc, this year’s Cannes Film Festival shimmers like never before.

Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o stepped onto the red carpet of the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival wearing a swirling mint green Gucci gown, accessorised with a pair of Chopard Red Carpet collection diamond drop earrings.

As the stars of the silver screen came out in force for the opening day of this year's Cannes Film Festival, Chopard jewellery reigned supreme.

The impressive roll call of actresses who chose Chopard for their red carpet jewellery included Julianne Moore, Lupita Nyong'o, Sophie Marceau, Rossy de Palma and Isabella Rossellini. While classic white diamonds are always abundant on the first day of the festival, there were also welcome glimpses of colourful gemstones.

The ever-stylish Julianne Moore wore a pair of pear-shaped emerald earrings from Chopard's Red Carpet collection, along with an octagonal step-cut emerald ring. After missing last year's closing ceremony, the Oscar-winning actress was also presented with the Best Actress Mini Palme award, which she won at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.

Lupita Nyong'o was another red carpet regular who bucked the white diamond trend by opting for colourful Cannes jewellery. The 2014 Academy Award winner wore a pair of pink quartz Chopard earrings as well as two rings set with coloured gemstones from the Swiss jeweller's Temptations collection.

One of our favourite Cannes jewellery looks from the opening day was Chinese actress Fan Bingbing, who looked radiant in a pair of emerald Chopard earrings and an emerald ring, which matched her green and white floral dress. The actress, who is also an ambassadress for Chopard jewellery, completed her outfit with a white diamond high jewellery bracelet and ring.

Italian actress Isabella Rossellini opted for crimson red carpet jewellery with a ruby Chopard ring and a pair of ruby earrings, both set in rose gold. Not to be outdone by the ladies, actor Jake Gyllenhaal sported a stylish Chopard L.U.C 1937 watch in silver and rose gold with a black leather strap.

Israeli model Bar Refaeli turned heads in de GRISOGONO jewellery at the opening ceremony of the 68th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. She set off her white Roland Mouret dress to perfection with an elegant rose gold de GRISOGONO high jewellery ring, and glistening cream and brown-hued earrings.

Natalie Portman also chose de GRISOGONO for her return to the red carpet. The Black Swan actress, who is in Cannes for the premiere of her new film, A Tale of Love and Darkness, wore an iconic fan-shaped de GRISOGONO ring along with diamond earrings and a Tubetto bangle.

Model Karlie Kloss was the epitome of glamour in a slinky Versace gown accessorised with a pair of statement de GRISOGONO earrings and diamond ring in the jeweller's signature sculptural design. Taking a leaf out of Kim Kardashian's book, French actress Frédérique Bel grabbed the tabloid headlines with her daring see-through dress teamed with a pair of diamond Avakian drop earrings.

With the images of Naomi Watts wearing THAT Bulgari snake necklace at this year's Golden Globes still fresh in our minds, the Australian actress once again wowed us with her red carpet jewellery choices. At the Cannes opening ceremony she wore four stunning pieces from the previously unseen Bulgari high jewellery collection, Giardini Italiani. Inspired by the lush and romantic Italian gardens, the new collection of Bulgari jewellery, which launches next month, combines geometric lines with intricate floral motifs and radiant coloured gemstones.

Montblanc jewellery also got its turn on the red carpet courtesy of French actress Alice Taglioni, who wore a Montblanc ring and four bracelets from the Princesse Grace de Monaco collection.

Finally, the festival's master of ceremonies, Lambert Wilson, showed that men, too, can sparkle at Cannes. The French actor wore a Cartier brooch set with diamonds and spinels pinned to his lapel for the opening ceremony.
