Maria Doulton meets Carmen Chaplin at SalonQP

Granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, Carmen Chaplin was at SalonQP to talk about her semtimental watch and the film it inspired her to make for Jaeger-LeCoultre.

SalonQP is Britain's only luxury watch show and, on the whole, mainly an event that attracts men keen to get up close and personal with the intricacies of horology.

But this year there was more on offer for women than ever before, and I was particularly interested to visit the Jaeger-LeCoultre stand, where I had the chance to meet the glamorous and statuesque actress and film director Carmen Chaplin.

Carmen's link to horology comes from her grandfather Charlie Chaplin who handed down his Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox alarm wristwatch. Carmen, who is very attached to this sentimental watch, visited the Swiss watch manufacture and the encounter sparked the idea to make a film about the passage of time and the cycle of life.

While the dramatic black-and-white short film, directed and starring Carmen as well as her mother and daughter, played on a large screen behind us, I had the chance to talk to the actress about her link to Jaeger-LeCoultre and her famous grandfather.
