The sculpted wonders of Alidra Alic
Alidra Alić makes jewellery that only she could
make, and quite literally too. This isn't just a case of another
jewellery designer working exclusively for themselves; Alidra's
inspired designs come to life through her own self-invented
techniques. That rare selling point so often oversold by others is
thoroughly deserved here: these pieces are utterly unique.
There is a sense of
otherworldliness in her precious jewellery collection 'Flora'. Here
you'll find rings vividly inspired by flowers, with textures and
colouring that gives a sense of jewellery entirely free from
manufactured forms. No machines are employed here for fine edges
and perfect curves. Instead, organic form takes precedence with
breathtaking originality. As Alidra says, "My work is based on an
interpretation of the cultural and art historical framework of a
given period towards a personal concept within contemporary
jewellery. With a strong emphasis on sensibility I illustrate my
concept using a self-invented plastic technique in combination with
precious metals and stones". A designer with a keen eye for
awakening the viewers' curiosity, it is this singular combination
of stones and self-invented techniques that no doubt make the
jewellery so individual.
If the precious jewellery has a
sense of otherworldly beauty, then the ready-to-wear
Interpretations collection is similarly enticing. Although the
Interpretations jewellery is a fraction of the cost, it exhibits
the same lovingly detailed feel of the Flora collection. Alidra has
designed many of the pieces to interlock with each other, with each
of them taking six to eight weeks to be produced.
Only just in her thirties, it's
fascinating to think how many more wonders such as these Alidra Alić will
continue to produce. Pricing for the ready-to-wear collection
starts at €400, with the haute jewellery Flora collection from
€4,000.
