Amrapali launches new ethical emerald collection with help from Gemfields
June 12th is an
important day for Amrapali, one of India's most prolific
jewellers, as they launch their new Panna emerald collection, that
features ethically-sourced Zambian emeralds by Gemfields,
one of the world's premier gemstone producers. The collection's
name is derived from the Hindi word for emerald, which is apt for
this collection that puts emeralds centre stage. Emeralds that
are symbols of power, hope, and beauty are combined unmistakebly
Indian design for an arresting effect.
Amrapali has served many royal
families over the past decades, so it is fitting that the designs
in this collection are inspired by the jewels of the Maharajas of
old that they commissioned grand European jewellers to create as
well as their very own ornate style of jewels. Now the circle is
complete and the tables turned, with Amrapali being the only Indian
jewellers able to make their jewellery entirely within their own
workshops in Jaipur. As you can see from this new collection, they
are all about infusing centuries old Indian jewellery-making
traditions with a Western twist.
These highly decorative jewels are
testament to the time and admirable workmanship invested in each
one. Take the multi-strand Zambian emerald and white diamond
necklace with silver silk fastening or the Zambian emerald and
diamond four leaf earrings; the vibrant emerald hues and
handcrafted quality make these as much ancient ornaments as they
are modern jewellery. And it's not just delicious the greens on
show here, thanks to Gemfields we have deep red hues too, such as
on the yellow gold and silver ruby and diamond necklace with
Zambian emeralds and white diamond drop details and chandelier-like
yellow gold ruby, Zambian emerald and diamond three drop
earrings.
It's the combination of Amrapali's
unquestionable heritage of Indian craft and design with Gemfield's
renowned emeralds that makes this a cut above collections hoping to
achieve a similar effect. It's not just the fact that these stones
are sourced by Gemfields, a company that prides itself on being
ethically and environmentally aware, but the quality of the
emeralds Gemfields provides is consistently high and
carefully graded.
Notable also as the first Indian
jeweller to be included in Harrods Fine Jewellery Room, the Panna
collection will preview in Amrapali's Beauchamp Place boutique and Harrods
Fine Jewellery room from Tuesday 12th June.
