Prizes awarded as Cannes comes to a rainy end
Sunday saw the rain fall on the red
carpet once again at the 65th Cannes Film Festival, in
what was the last night of a somewhat muted competition year that,
as expected, saw Michael Hanake's masterful Amour take home the
Palme D'Or. His second win, he joins the coveted ranks of Francis
Ford Coppola, Emir Kusturica, Billie August and the Dardennes to
have won the coveted award twice. There were few surprises
elsewhere as our own Ken Loach was awarded the Prix de Jury for his
winning whiskey comedy The Angel's Share. With the festival finally
over and the red carpets of the Lumiere and Debussy rolled up and
put away, we take a look at some of the many jewellery highlights
that stars the world over brought to the Croisette this year.
Official partner to the festival,
it was time again for stars to head from the Chopard Lounge at the famed Martinez to the red
carpet wearing pieces from Chopard and some from their Red Carpet
Collection too, with hot-to-trot model and singer Cassie Ventura,
Avatar star Michelle Rodriquez and French actress Sandrine Bonnaire
all sparkling in Chopard pieces. Looking ever radiant, Kylie
Minogue was wearing Chopard yellow gold earrings set with yellow
diamonds and an rose gold snake ring set with yellow, brown and
black diamonds from their delightfully delicious Animal World
collection.
One of the standout actresses from
last year's festival with Melancholia, Kirsten Dunst was back this
year in Walter Salles' On The Road and she was seen with a variety
of fantastic pieces on various nights: once with the Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra watch in
yellow gold and diamonds, and again wearing Louis Vuitton earrings and ring whilst carrying
a Louis Vuitton minaudiere. The earrings and
ring, in pink gold, diamonds, yellow and pink sapphires were from
Vuitton's L'Ame du Voyage high jewellery collection, and the
minaudiere in satin and galuchat embroidered with colored stones
and crystals. Sports Illustrated model Kate Upton Model also wore a
Louis Vuitton minaudiere, this time in black
alligator.
Former Victoria's Secret Karolina
Kurkova wore a Bulgari Serpenti Bracelet in white gold and
diamonds and Earrings in white gold, rubies and diamonds, both from
Bulgari's
High Jewelry Collection. Dark Shadows star Bella Heathcote
wore the look 49 from the Chanel Haute-Couture 2009/2010 collection with
Fil de Camélia earrings in white gold and diamonds, and a Tweed
ring in white gold and black and white diamonds, all by Chanel Fine
Jewelry. Also in Chanel was French Actress and Alias starlet
Elodie Bouchez, with Franges earrings and a Première watch, both in
white gold and diamonds.
So another Cannes Film Festival
comes to a close, and with deals done and films being finished
already many will be gearing up for next year. It may have seen
more than it's fair share of wet weather and somewhat underwhelming
run of competition films, but the jewellery on display both on and
off the red carpet was certainly a cut above the rest, and a warm
reminder of why the Croisette is still, and always will be, the
place to be during this incredible film festival.
