Bulgari's B.zero1 is a well known classic that now includes this capsule collection set, for the first time ever, with marble. Three different varieties of marble in green, brown and blue strike a suitably classic note in this collection that is now settling into its 11th year. The marble, though it reminds us of the Ancient Roman designs that have inspired Bulgari in the past with designs such as the much copied ' Roman coin' necklaces, looks clean and contemporary. The grainy texture, rich clours and veins of the marble add colour and a tactile to appeal to this statement design from Bulgari.
Followers of art and lovers of jewellery will remember that for the 10th anniversary of the B.zero1 artist Anish Kapoor designed a special anniversary collection. Taking up this idea of experimentation, the new marble collection challenges our concepts of 'precious' and brings a new dimension to the strong and instantly recognisable forms of the B.zero.1. How much more interesting to ponder the marvels of marble than yet another diamond setting.
The central spirals are a reinterpretation of the Tubogas that was one of Bulgari's first industrial inspired designs. The Tubogas was a homage to the mundane beauty of humble flexible gas piping found in almost every house and building around the world. Now they are recreated in fine examples of natural marble and as with all the B.zero.1 range, two oblique rims with an engraved dual logo frame the spirals. This capsule collection will appeal to those with an eye for stylish statements and a love of the unusual. I have included some images of the current B.zero.1 collection, but I have to admit that my eye is naturally drawn to the new marble rings and the excitement of raw stone against highly polished rose gold.
