Jewellery spotting at the BAFTAs 2011
There are a lot people out there documenting who wore what frock
down the red carpet at the BAFTA's. But I look at the jewellery and
see what I can spot. The first thing that struck me as I looked at
the first images coming in from the BAFTA's over my bowl of Alpen
this morning, was how little jewellery there was adorning the stars
on the red carpet last night. This is probably a pared-down,
laid-back, too-cool-to-care Brit thing and given half a chance I am
sure that some of them would have turned up in their dressing
gowns. I am not saying this just because I happened to be in
a dressing gown myself at that moment. It is more likely that the
jewel-bright, floor-sweeping drama of the frocks that dictated
accents rather than jewellery statements. What jewels the stars did
wear, were very much in keeping with their personalities and
Brit-jewellers seems to be the first choice. Take Thandie Newton. I
am sure she had jewellery PRs courting her to wear something big
and exploding with carats but as Thandie is a friend of Solange
Azagury-Partridge it is not a suprise she chose her old china's
jewellery. And as for Helena Bonham Carter, the eccentric
quirkiness of Solange Azagury-Partridge fits right in with her
style - and I am sure that husband Tim Burton approves of these way
out there jewels. Who wore their jewellery with the most style? I
would love to hear what you think. I can't stop thinking that
Julianne Moore so suits the 1970's style Bulgari Serpenti cuff
bracelet that it has to be my first choice of perfect jewellery
style. But that may be because I still think of her in the ultimate
70's film: Boogie Nights.
